GO TO CONFESSION
Be prepared
Do an examination of conscience
Or not!
Ask for help
Jesus teaches us specifically that it is the Holy Spirit who convicts of us our sin and guides us to the truth.
Make sure that you invite him to guide you in your confession. He knows what you need to say better than you do!
Speak your heart
In the end the focus is what keeping you from the Lord?
What is keeping you from living fully alive? What is keeping you from Joy?
NOTHING IS TOO BIG (shameful, embarrassing, “dirty”) or too small for confession. Avoid scrupulosity (too much minutia) and sloth (too little light)
Involve your mind: Listen to what the priest says AND WHAT HE DOESN’T SAY.
Often we confess and are more focused on what we just said than the counsel or penance we are being given.
Or we are seeking feedback or counsel and none comes.
Continue the journey
Do your penance
Live Free! What you do is not Who you are! We are all sinners and through baptism we are all saints (st. paul’s letter to the ephesians says holy ones).
Remember, growth in freedom, in holiness requires change and change requires action.
