At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them…Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”
    Matthew 9: 36-38

About the Vocations Chalice & Cross

On the first weekend of every month, at each mass, a family, couple, parish group, or individual will be given either the Vocations Chalice or Vocations Cross, depending on the month, to take home and to intercede for vocations in our Diocese and the Church.

Each recipient (or household, etc) will receive a special pamphlet which will have instructions, prayers, and ideas for what to do when they take home Chalice | Cross.

The Vocations Chalice: The symbol of the chalice is tied intimately to the ordained Priesthood. A priest will often receive his first chalice from his family or at times from another priest. The chalice is a sacred vessel used at the altar during the Mass, so it can also be a symbol related to the Deacon who assists the priest at the altar. For that reason, we ask those who receive one of our three Vocations Chalices to pray specifically for our Bishop, Joe, our Pastors here at St. Helen, our Priests, our seminarians, and our Deacons here in the Diocese of Austin, that God would strengthen and bless them. We also ask that they pray specifically for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and Diaconate here in our Diocese.

    The Vocations Cross:
The symbol of the cross reminds us that to be a disciple of our Lord, we must deny ourselves, pick up our cross daily, and follow him. In every vocation, no matter whether it is the religious life, married life, or single life, the Cross is present to each of us is a unique way. For that reason, we ask those who receive one of our three Vocations Cross to pray specifically for all of our religious brothers and sisters, those preparing for religious life (aspirants, postulants, novices, etc), married couples, and those who are living the single life here in the Diocese of Austin, that God would strengthen and bless them. We also ask that they pray specifically for an increase in all vocations here in our Diocese.
